have I told you lately that I’ve thrifted?

Just as I was falling out of like with Value Village and their never-to-be-understood crackpot pricing—$16.99 for a man’s shirt complete with Uncle Harry’s dead skin cells which costs less new (minus peculiar odor) vs. $2.99 for English bone china—I amassed a bounty of heart-jacking scores. My favourites being a girl and a boy. China, you’ll be relieved to know. And bookends, at that. My heart did a little sing-song when I found them at $3.99. The new nest is beginning to feel much more nest-like. And the children are rolling their eyes at my mad, thrifting ways. Looks like things are getting back to their weird “normal” round here … and that’s vaguely reassuring.

Have you had a good thrift lately?

There’s this highly scientific theory that biscuits taste better in fancy French jars.

YELLOW china—sunshine in the dead of winter. Who could walk away from that?

The drawers where my lacy lovelies lie. And aprons. Lots of aprons. It could be a fetish.

Bathroom beauties: mini butter dishes reincarnated as candle holders. Much better.

About a girl

and the boy who came home too.

Something about the look of an old basket that messes with my heart.

There’s no falling out of love with vintage quilts. Or woolen blankets edged by hand. (So I don’t even bother trying.)

kate + adeline = love

Kate Spade and Adeline Adeline have teamed up to produce a bike made in heaven. Its Kelly green colour and retro stylings give me such a pang. Ever since my 1973 Raleigh was stolen a couple years ago, I’ve been nothing but lustful of a ride such as this. I miss my wheels!  She was a twenty-five dollar yard sale purchase, and in mint condition for a babe of her years. I’ve resigned myself to replacing her; two summers without a bike has now become unbearable.

So, let me just say right up front, that this Kate Spade number is the stuff of utter bike fantasy: Italian steel meets trad English accessories and a hit of NY colour. But I’m willing to indulge if you are! The price tag may not be optional … but the bakery boxes are.
