You lived in Russia?! Bet you’ve got loads of stories to tell, and an amazing key collection!
My 10 yr. old had a crazy-good collection between the ages of 2-6. He was obsessed with them: old ones, new ones, the stranger the better! We had this whole ritual of visiting the hardware store to purchase a blank key for a buck. It didn’t take long for us to become regulars. One day, a salesgirl commented on how thrilled he was each time he chose a key — by that time, I’d dished out about $20. — and she mentioned, in a hush-hush way, that they had a bucket of keys lurking under the counter that had been miss-cut or donated. From then on, he was allowed to chose from the secret stash … and I got to keep my big bucks. Happy:Happy!
There have been several blogs recently that I opened to read and this “key” has been the topic. I must find some and make something pretty with them.
I’d like to as well!
Ohhh, I love, love, LOVE old keys, Jacqueline!!
When I lived in Russia in ’93 I found a pile of old keys in a shop and was smitten.
I still have them.
